NEC and eyeOS combine cloud technologies to create a professional desktop solution accessible from any web browser- First globally available solution that turns a web browser into a complete working desktop, reducing desktop OS cost and improving functionalities -

London, 12 October 2012 – NEC Corporation (NEC) and eyeOS, a leader in the cloud desktop market, announced today an innovative Cloud Desktop solution that provides a complete desktop inside a web browser, reducing total cost of ownership due to low investment in physical desktops and maintenance costs.

The new desktop solution allows users worldwide to access their data and applications from anywhere and any device. It maximizes mobility and provides high performance, scalability and security, suitable for companies and organization in both the public and private sector. As a web solution, the NEC and eyeOS web desktop doesn’t require any installation in customers’ devices. It allows companies to achieve substantial cost savings by consuming less power and requiring less bandwidth than a standard virtual desktop solution.

By simply entering a username and password, a whole professional desktop is available and can be customized (wallpaper, shortcuts, etc). Users can access their data and applications in a seamless manner from the same environment. Data is always available and synchronised between devices when using cloud data storage capacities. In addition, uploading and sharing files can be done quickly and easily.

This new service is the result of integration between eyeOS’ Web Operating System and NEC’s Cloud solutions, including NEC’s application marketplace (that provides web and desktop applications) and NEC’s data storage solution.

The Cloud desktop includes multiple native applications to help with daily work (email, calendar, contacts, text editor, presentations, pdf viewer, multimedia player, chat, project manager, etc.). The desktop also provides opportunities to buy and use other applications such as MS Office.
