Heidelberg & London, 19 October 2012 – NEC Laboratories Europe will demonstrate its vehicular communications system at the 19th ITS World Congress and Exhibition, 22-26 October 2012 at Reed Exhibitions Messe Wien, Vienna.
Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure applications using the NEC communication system improve traffic safety and efficiency by, for example, alerting drivers of potentially unseen vehicles at blind intersections, red light violations and emergency braking situations, as well as informing the driver about the current speed limit or the approaching of a traffic jam. In addition, to get through the next intersection during a green light, which contributes to reduce fuel consumption, drivers can be informed about the optimal speed by integrating with the road-side infrastructure.
During the event, visitors of the NEC stand (Hall B, A-41) will see how the communication system, including the LinkBird-MX communication platform and NEC’s C2X-Software Development Kit, has been integrated with a traffic light controller for intersection safety and ecoDriving applications.
Car makers and a road infrastructure systems vendor also have adopted NEC communication system for live demonstrations around the exhibition area. With the NEC system, a series of example scenarios will be demonstrated in a collaborative project by the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium (C2C-CC), representing 58 partners from vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and research organisations, together with the Testfeld Telematik (TT) Consortium, representing 14 partners from the industry, the public sector and road operators. Using sections of the TT Consortium’s 45km testfield
route around the motorway junctions A2/A23-A4-S1 in Vienna, participants in the demo will experience the interaction between telematics services delivered from road side units to and between intelligent vehicles via an exclusively allocated ITS frequency band for Europe (5.875 GHz – 5.905 GHz).
Besides vehicular communications, the NEC stand includes other key ITS systems such as integrated highway traffic control systems, security imaging systems for vehicle detection, hybrid camera technology and cloud-based automotive technology.
