NEC participates in Small Cells World Summit 2013

London & Tokyo, May 29, 2013 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced its participation in Small Cells World Summit 2013, from 4 to 6 June 2013 at the Hilton London Metropole hotel.

NEC will showcase its end-to-end small cell solutions including;

(1)   Small Cells for homes and offices

A range of consumer/residential, SOHO, SME, and Hotspot products all designed to be easily deployed by an operator as ‘zero touch’ or ‘one touch’ offerings to their customers.  The small cells can be used in single standalone mode or in multiple-unit, self-configuring and self-optimising grid configurations in order to offer higher area coverage and/or higher capacities. As with all of its small cell solutions, NEC offers a fully-managed, end-to-end service to operators to ensure that service/customer satisfaction levels and KPIs are maximized. NEC also offers CAPEX, mixed CAPEX/OPEX or even full OPEX installation, pilot, and customer deployment plans to fit with operators’ business requirements.

(2)   Small Cell Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) systems

The Scalable E-RAN system enables a mobile operator-managed mobile access and services system for medium to large enterprise customers to be deployed rapidly; in days or weeks, compared with months or years, for costly and complex Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).

(3)   LTE microcell

NEC’s LTE microcell is a compact and lightweight base station that integrates a baseband unit with a remote radio head in a single unit. It offers the SON*-based plug-and-play feature where base stations are automatically self-configured after being switched on at each site. This can radically reduce installation time and associated costs.

(4)   iPASOLINK AOR (All-Outdoor Radio)

iPASOLINK AOR is compact, robust and high-capacity packet radio equipment ideal for LTE backhaul. All-Outdoor designs significantly reduce physical equipment footprints, speed up network deployment and reduce operational and maintenance costs.

“NEC has been a pioneer in the adoption of small cell technology, with many contracts and field trials with leading operators globally,” said Martin Guthrie, Head of Business Development for Small Cells, NEC Europe Ltd. “Now, we have a comprehensive set of small cell solutions for the residential, enterprise and public segments, which are designed to relieve the challenges operators are facing in terms of coverage and traffic volumes”.

During the conference, Mr. Guthrie will speak about “Using Value Added Services (VAS) to differentiate Enterprise In-Building-Solutions”. Presenting at 11:35am on 4 June, he will discuss the type of small cell solution architecture that enables operators to offer VAS in a more cost effective, scalable and flexible way than has traditionally been the case – and thereby help operators to both further differentiate their enterprise solutions as well as increase their potential revenue from customers.

NEC has been shortlisted for the Small Cell Forum Industry Awards in the “Residential femtocell access point design and technology innovation” category for its Broadband Wireless Super Home Hub, the new residential multi access small cell. In addition, Small Cell Forum has shortlisted “Small Cell for DAS replacement” which was jointly submitted by NEC and SpiderCloud Wireless. The Small Cell Forum Industry Awards are one of the industry's most prestigious and respected events. The winners of the 2013 Small Cell Industry Awards will be announced on the evening of 5 June at the Small Cells World Summit in London.
