NEC offers embedded GxFS-e Storage Appliance
- Ideal for massive data from analytics, video surveillance, research data and more -
Duesseldorf, January 29, 2019 - NEC Deutschland GmbH (NEC) today announced the availability of the next generation NEC GxFS-e Storage Appliance product line.
NEC’s GxFS Storage Appliance systems follow a building block approach and include the IBM® Spectrum ScaleTM , an extremely robust and scalable distributed file system which has been a market leader for more than 20 years. The new NEC GxFS-e Storage Appliance is an “embedded version” of the NEC GxFS Storage appliance, where IBM Spectrum Scale resides directly on the redundant controllers of the NEC SNA800 storage system. With the same feature set and configuration flexibility (SSD, SAS, NL-SAS), in a much smaller footprint, this new system is the ideal storage platform for massive data from a wide variety of sources, such as analytics, video surveillance, research data, repositories and more.
This solution was developed in close collaboration with NEC’s OEM storage partner NetApp. The recently released NetApp SANtricity software, with its advanced container functionalities, will enable NEC to provide highly condensed appliances in the future.
“NEC is a key partner of NetApp in providing industry leading solutions,” says Robin Huber, vice president, E-Series at NetApp. “The embedded GxFS-e Storage Appliance is a great example of our collaboration, which delivers improved cost, density and simplicity to the customer. This solution is a true appliance, supplying an innovative offering for the capacity-based segment of the market.”
“The NEC GxFS-e Storage Appliance systems provide consistent redundancy for the entire architecture,” said Yuichi Kojima, Vice President HPC EMEA and Managing Director of NEC Deutschland. “Data is accessible through redundant components, automated path failover, and automated online administration. Advanced protection and extensive diagnostics deliver high levels of data integrity, including Data Assurance (T10-PI) to protect against drive errors.”
IBM Spectrum Scale is an enterprise-class parallel file system that provides dramatic resiliency, scalability and control. Delivering unmatched scalable capacity and performance for demanding data analytics, AI, big data, content repository, and technical computing workloads, Spectrum Storage can automatically tier data to the cloud. Administrators can combine flash, disk, cloud, and tape storage into a unified system with substantially higher performance and lower cost than traditional approaches. By including IBM Spectrum Scale in their software-defined infrastructure, organizations streamline data workflows, help improve service, reduce costs, manage risk and deliver business results today, while positioning the enterprise for future growth.
NEC has an accomplished track record spanning more than 30 years in High Performance Computing as well as providing and operating storage components.
