Products
NTML Systems engineering, Simulation, Software and Hardware development team primary focus is for the following cellular technology infrastructure products
O-RAN and 3GPP compliant Radio Unit (RU)
An O-RAN and 3GPP compliant Radio Unit (RU) is a wireless communication device designed to meet the specifications set forth by both the O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). These RUs adhere to standardized protocols and interfaces, enabling interoperability and flexibility within radio access networks. O-RAN compliance emphasizes open architecture and disaggregation of network components, allowing for greater innovation and vendor diversity. Meanwhile, 3GPP compliance ensures compatibility with global cellular standards for seamless integration into existing mobile networks. Overall, an O-RAN and 3GPP compliant RU offers enhanced interoperability, flexibility, and scalability in next-generation wireless networks.
Open vRAN
Open vRAN is achieved by virtually implementing software functions on a part of the base station on a general-purpose server. It is flexible and allows equipment resources to be optimally allocated by constructing the optimal network according to the use case, making it possible to reduce equipment procurement costs and operating power costs. Additionally, due to the generalization of hardware and the shortening of the evolution cycle of IT equipment, it is believed that performance costs can be dramatically reduced over a long period of time, such as 10 years. Furthermore, with the trend toward softwareization of communication equipment, the hardware used by operators as part of open vRAN will be standardized throughout the communication system, making maintenance and operation of that hardware simpler and more efficient. . Another advantage of open vRAN is that functions other than RAN functions (MEC) can be run on the same general-purpose server.
O-RAN RIC
O-RAN RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) is a key component in the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) architecture, designed to enhance the management and performance of radio networks through intelligence and automation. It consists of two parts: the Near-Real-Time RIC (near-RT RIC), which operates with low latency to manage radio resources and optimize network performance in real-time, and the Non-Real-Time RIC (non-RT RIC), which handles long-term network analytics and policy-based management. Together, they enable a flexible, efficient, and vendor-neutral RAN infrastructure, fostering innovation and interoperability within 5G networks.
Standardisation
NEC Telecom MODUS, Ltd (NTML) is working at the forefront of wireless communications technology standardisation and research developing technologies for following:
- 5G/NR (Release 15, 16 and 17), 5G-Advanced (Release 18 and beyond) and 6G
- Open RAN (Fronthaul, Radio Intelligent Controller)
- Cloudification, Virtualisation and Orchestration
NTML staff members have led and represented NEC on various international standards bodies and industry forums (3GPP, ORAN, WiMAX, TIP, Small Cell Forum) for over 20 years.
NEC Telecom MODUS Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation
